Garland Celebrates Groundbreaking For Bass Pro Shops

Apr 01, 2006

City officials, project developers Harvest Partners and Bass Pro Shops representatives held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday, February 7, to mark the official beginning of construction on the new Bass Pro Shops retail store in Garland. The 120,000 square foot outdoor store will feature an 8,000 square foot Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant and courtesy docks. The store, tentatively scheduled to open in October, will anchor the new 28-acre Harbor Point Development situated on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard on I-30 in Garland.

Regarded as part museum, part art gallery, part education, conservation and entertainment center, the store in Garland will offer some of the same signature features of other Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World stores. However, as typical in stores in other geographic locations, the Garland Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World will be uniquely designed to pick up the local flavor of the area's outdoor heritage and include state record fish and wildlife exhibits and historical pictures and artifacts from local hunters and fishermen.

"I, and the citizens of Garland, can hardly wait to see this wonderful shopping education experience coming out of the ground in South Garland," stated Garland Mayor Bob Day. " City staff has been working very closely with Bass Pro Shops staff to 'set this jewel in place' for the enjoyment of the entire area," he continued.

"We are very excited about creating a truly unique Bass Pro Shops store right on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard," said Bass Pro Shops President Jim Hagale. "The attached courtesy docks will allow us to do boat sales, test equipment, and conduct outdoor skills classes right on the water. We are very thankful to the City of Garland and Harvest Partners for this opportunity to serve the people of Texas with our third Texas store," he continued.

"Harvest Partners has enjoyed working with Bass Pro Shops and its entire professional staff," said Harvest Partners Eliot Barnett. "With the presence of Bass Pro Shops as its anchor, the successful outcome of the Harbor Point development is assured," he continued.

Officials attending the groundbreaking included Garland Mayor Bob Day, Council members Michael Holden, Terri Dunn, Harry Hickey, Barbara Chick, and Randall Dunning, former Council member Jim Dunn, City Manager Bill Dollar, Deputy City Manager Martin Glenn, Chamber of Commerce President Paul Mayer, Harvest Partners Managing Partner Eliot Barnett and Bass Pro Shops Director of Conservation Martin MacDonald.
